For those of you that have been familiar with Google Places, you may have noticed its recent absence. That is because Google has now implemented their new directory engine "Google Local". There are but a few differences between Google Places and Google Local.
The differences being:
The substitution of the new Google+ Local pages (as mentioned) for Google Places pages
The appearance of a “Local” tab within Google+
The integration and free availability of Zagat reviews
The integration of Google+ Local pages across Google (search, Maps, mobile
If you have been using Google places you may have came to an understanding that you can no longer access your Google Places page. You must update your Google Places by creating a Google+ account first to link to your Google Local page.
As arduous and time consuming you may think this process to be, it is actually a very concise and simple one. Simply visit http://www.google.com/places/ and create a new account.
